The newly opened metro line in Ipanema has attracted many people to its doors, but it is not the the crowd they had hoped would arrive.
Citizens are loudly protesting the corruption and fiscal waste of their government and the crowd is quickly growing. Though the protest only has 500 to 600 people participating currently, more seem to be joining every hour.
The streets are filled with the seemingly planted chant lines of “down with the corrupt, up with the people”, "incorruptible", “the voice of the people”, and other similar statements. There are many signs in the sea of people, a lot of which repeat the same sentiments they are chanting, but also an unusual amount of strange, poorly drawn faces of an unknown man also have a strong presence among the picket signs.
When approached by a reporter an excited protester stated that they were gathered to the cause under the banner of Ordem de Progresso. When pressed further the unnamed man shouted that Deltan Dallagnol is “the people's prosecutor”, which was met with loud cheering around him.
The restless crowd is quickly losing patience with their government and we will be keeping as they hope to attract their government and the international community's eye.
