Investigators pursuing the culprits of the stadium bombing have uncovered that German officials pushed bribes towards Chinese javelin thrower Lü Huihui, for the purpose of injuring the Venezuelan athlete María González.
While the javelin event never occurred due to the bombing, after reviewing email correspondence between Huihui and a German official who has yet to be identified, Huihui came forward and admitted that she did accept a bribe of $100,000 if she succeeded in downing González. However, since González is a retired Track and Field athlete who is not participating in the 2016 games, it was difficult for Huihui to carry out her task, she said.
This discovery comes right after another Venezuelan archer was hospitalized, and it comes in the wake of rising tensions between China and Venezuela.
Huihui is currently being detained by Brazilian security police as this matter is investigated further.
