Germany has deployed 2,500 air force personnel and 3,000 navy to Moldova and Eastern Poland as a response to the increasing threat of Russian intervention in the region.
Germany’s preemptive measure in deploying the troops seems to be a preparation in defense against the increasing Russian wargames in Eastern Poland.
With an interest in gathering intelligence on Russian exercises near the Azov Sea, Chancellor Angela Merkel has clandestinely authorized agents to disclose Russian motives and the extent of their wargames. An anonymous intelligence agent, yet to be publicly identified, has disclosed the aforementioned information of Germany’s militarization within the region, and this reveal has led to heightened tension between Germany and Russia.
In regards to the Rio Olympics, this escalation of international pressures is sure to affect the participation and outcomes of the games.
