It is with great sadness that the world learn that 4 of the 5 athletes killed in the track stadium explosion were Russian competitors. Ruslan Kovalevsky, Danil Anokhin, Nikita Pankov, and Anton Tsaplin were beloved national heroes.
We in Russia deeply value our athletic traditions and can and will do everything to ensure the safety of its citizens, particularly its most talent citizens, abroad. As I as president have demonstrated in previous actions as president, there is no place on the globe that terrorists can kill or persecute Russian citizens with impunity. Be assured world, swift and vengeful punititve action will be taken against these monsters.
The Russian government will not stand by while its citizens are murdered in cold blood and their killers are not brought to justice. This is more than a matter of avenging our 4 beloved national treasures who were killed yesterday. Their deaths were an attack of every patriotic Russian citizen. This is a matter of our Motherland's national pride and dignity.
