Germany and the Chinese javelin player Lu Huihui teams have been suspended from the summer Olympic games. The IOC voted to suspend the two teams after numerous offenses have been plaguing the games as a result of their misdemeanors.
Although the IOC has not directly given any reasons for the suspensions, the decision comes after many different grievances, including an injured archer, an attempted murder of a Venezuelan Track and Field athlete, and Germany’s deployment of troops. All of these actions have disrupted the games and caused injury, and investigations are uncovering more and more misdemeanors.
Although the Chinese archer Xiaxiang was also responsible for injuring another Olympic athlete, he has not been suspended from the games. He is, however, currently in the hospital anyway.
Even though the two teams have been suspended, the German and Chinese athletes and officials in Maracana Stadium are not being permitted to leave, and this will continue until the stadium’s lockdown ends.
