Former Brazilian President Voices Support for ODP

O Globo

Fernando Cardoso, the former president of Brazil and member of the PMDB party, was recently asked by opposition leader of the Ordem do Progresso, Aecio Neves da Cunha, to voice his support of the group and for the anti corruption movement. Cardoso has accepted Neves da Cunha’s requests, officially endorsing the ODP.

Cardoso also condemns Rio de Janeiro’s mayor, Eduardo da Costa Paes, for his ineffectiveness at supporting the poor. “Eduardo Paes’ lack of action regarding the poor is an abhorrent example of the corruption and lack of regard for the poor that has myred this country for too long,” Cardoso states.

Cardoso continued on to say “the ODP is the only group really rising up and taking action against this corruption. I am proud to support its movements.” He makes this statement even after news of the financial links between the terrorist organization ISIL and the ODP have been found. Caroso dismissed those reports as “laughably absurd fabrications”

Coming from the centrist PMDB party, and in light of the ISIL - ODP allegations, the Cardoso’s endorsement of the ODP is a surprising move.
