Reports from Maracana Olympic Stadium, which has been on lockdown for a number of hours, shows spectators in fear and discomfort.
Taking reports from Olympic attendees and competitors via various social media accounts it seems as if spectators have been stuck within the stadium for over five hours. Many of these reports have been communicated via videos in which horrified masses scream for the doors of the stadium to be opened, videos which are quickly becoming viral.
One particular video shows a young couple and their two children yelling in Portuguese for “God to help [them],” as their cries are cruelly ignored by the executives within the Maracana VIP Box.
Requests for comment from Brazilian event organizers were denied, but it appears that this dire situation is no accident, but what one wonders what can one possibly gain from locking the doors to the stadium.
We can only hope that this situation will be solved quickly, with events not needing to be escalated more than they already have been.
