This afternoon, during the Russian Men’s Diving Team’s practice, three athletes were injured while trying to complete their dives.
The cause of this accident is yet to be determined, but sources present attest to seeing the screws from the diving board falling into the water below.
Many spectators, especially those of whom are Russian nationals, are blaming the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for not taking the proper safety precautions when contracting out the construction for the diving platforms and diving boards used within Rio this summer.
It is unclear what this accident could mean for the fate of the Russian diving team, but it will surely affect the rest of the Olympic athletes when considering the safety of their respective events.
