Press Release - Thomas Bach

The IOC stands in solidarity and mourning with the athlete tragically killed in the bombing earlier today, the talented athletes injured, and their families, friends, and fellow countrymen. The IOC has taken every measure possible to ensure the security of the athletes and spectators at the Games and will only continue to utilize every resource possible. We pray for the health of the athletes affected by this tragedy, and we are sure that the Brazilian government will do everything in their capability of catching the monsters who perpetrated this attack and darkened the spirits of this beautiful Olympic Games.

The Olympics have overcome tribulations similar to this in the past. The Olympic Games continued through the act of terrorism in the Centennial Olympic Park in 1996. We wish to continue on with the spirit of collaboration and friendship of the Olympic games, as we are sure the affected athletes would have wanted.

President of the IOC, Thomas Bach
